I have had this dream for a long time to open a saloon/honky-tonk/nightcl... on the order of the one in Coyote Ugly. I want singing and dancing girls (and of course to be one of them), lots of fun drunks, good drinks and atmosphere, along with loud music! I have no idea how to even go about attempting such a feat, but I vow that I will someday. How much do you think it would cost? Would it be difficult finding reliable help in this sort of industry? Who could I talk to about financing such a prospective business? Would I be able to be a teacher (as I plan) if I owned a place like this - even if it was in another town, county, etc.? Do you think it would be appropriate to do children's parties (I intend on it being more than scantily-clad females) and such there? How do people afford to hire bands every weekend in little places like this? Would it be wise to cater to all types of music/bands or try to focus more primarily on a few specific genres? I like them all, so that'd be tough! How much difficulty do you presume would arise in the making, owning, and operating of a saloon?
Never been to a Coyote Ugly myself, but the ';Bar-Business'; is rather difficult !! Of course it depends on the state, county, city in which you're dreaming of operating this fine New Establishment...
Obtaining the SPACE, then configuring it to your needs as well as local ordinances on electrical, plumbing, etc. Obtaining the mandatory Liquor License. Obtaining a license for live music, dancing, etc. Contracts with liquor distributors.
Depending on your location... probably NOT appropriate for children's parties as in California it's illegal for a minor to be INSIDE a bar !
You ask if you could be a TEACHER while owning such a place? It all depends on the school district: some folks might not like a teacher who also runs a honky-tonk.
Of course there is then the time involved... an 8 hour day job and THEN a long night working/managing your place ? Not much time for grading papers and lesson plans !
I'm sure it CAN be done... and I wish you the BEST of luck !! I love a nice local bar and will buy a round on the tuesday after you open hahaha !How much difficulty do you presume would arise in the making, owning, and operating of a saloon?
My mother just bought herself a tavern, after wanting to own one for 20 some odd years. So I sure hope you are able to fulfill your dream also. I know hers wasn't cheap, she bought a place that was already established. So patrons were included in the price!!!! Anyways, I know she spends a lot of time at the tavern and when she's not there she spends a lot of time running errands, paying bills, doing payroll, etc. It consumes most of her day. Not just the physical time that she spends in the place. There is a lot of physical and mental stress that consume her day. As far as help is concerned, I know she is having a difficult time with that. I just finished training someone two weeks ago and last week the first day they were late, the second day they never showed up, called after 6 hours of being late and the third day didn't even bother with anything. So the help thing is pretty difficult. She runs her tavern the way she likes it - the music she likes - the food she likes - everything about it is what she likes - after all - she spends the most amount of time there!!!!! Good luck to you in following your dreams!!!!
